30 Nov 2010 Wrexham Based Gym Club gets help from Kronospan

Kronospan the Chirk based wood panel manufacturer has teamed up with young gymnasts at the Abbey Road Acro Club in Wrexham.

Kronospan the Chirk based wood panel manufacturer has teamed up with young gymnasts at the Abbey Road Acro Club in Wrexham.

The Gym Club wrote to Kronospan asking for wood panel boards which they could use to protect their specially sprung gymnastic floor during competitions.

Every time the club needed extra seating for competitions they faced 2 days of dismantling their floor just to accommodate everyone.  Now thanks to the Kronospan boards they can put re-usable protective wood panels on the sprung floor whenever they need to.

Paul Blackwell the Head Coach said, "We are so grateful to Kronospan for giving us these protective boards.  Earlier in the year we hosted the North Wales Area competition but stuggled to accomodate everyone and had to spend hours and hours dismantling the floor.  Now it is just a question of putting the boards in place and getting on with the gym!"

The voluntary run gymnastics club called Abbey Road Acro is based in Wrexham Industrial Estate.  It has been up and running for some five years and has 170 members aged from 5 to 18.  Some of the children have competed at Regional and National levels and others have been selected to be part of the Welsh squad.

Mike McKenna Kronospan Works Director said, "Kronospan is delighted to be able to help these young gymnasts during their competitions.  Our wood panel boards are very versatile and we are always very pleased to see them getting used in such a variety of ways.  And these children are involved in a sport which helps them to develop stamina and self confidence which is very rewarding to see."
