7 Jun 2011 KRONOSPAN SPONSORS A DREAM PROJECT
Chirk students Jac Hughes, Larissa Davies and Hannah Jones visited Kronospan today (3rd June 2011) to thank Chairman Mike McKenna for his help in sponsoring their "Dreams & Teams Project" in South Africa.
The students have returned from a very sucessful visit to Mazwendola School in Underburg South Africa. They spent two exciting weeks developing linguistic, historical and sporting links with pupils there. They also introduced Rounders to the South African children and in return learnt some of their Zulu language and history.
Jac Hughes said "We were amazed - it was the trip of a lifetime, and we were all overwhelmed by the generosity of people and companies such as Kronospan who pledged their support. We provided equipment for the Mazwendola School and following the visit our aim will be to break down barriers and help those less fortunate than ourselves"
The Chirk Students were among a total of six pupils from Ysgol Dinas Bran in Llangollen, who contacted local wood panel manufacturer Kronospan asking for financial help with sponsorship. The pupils needed to raise over £6000 before they could go, and Kronospan helped them reach their target.
Mike McKenna Kronospan Chairman said, "It is good to see local children set themselves ambitious targets and then to meet them. They obviously had a fascinating time and learnt a great deal from what was clearly a wonderful trip".
