Wood panel manufacturer Kronospan has come to the rescue of the hard working gardening volunteers in the Chirk Community Forum by donating a much needed plant watering tank to the town.
Every year the Chirk Community Forum members plant up hundreds of hanging baskets, trim hedges in communal areas, tidy-up green spaces and line the streets of Chirk with wonderful displays of flowers, all in time for the 'Wales in Bloom' competition which is to be judged again this year in July.
Chirk has come 2nd for three years in a row, narrowly missing the winning prize by 2 points in 2009. So this year the Community Forum hope it will be fourth time lucky. The plant watering tank will help to keep all the flowers healthy and in the best possible shape for the all important judging week.
Receiving the water bowser on behalf of the Community Chirk Town Councillor and Community Forum member Jackie Allen said, "We are over the moon having this fantastic watering system because it will halve our watering time. As things stand we are out watering the plants four times a week and it takes hours each time to get it all done!"
Mike McKenna Kronospan works Director said, "We are delighted to be able to support our local community by giving them this brilliant plant watering tank which will help keep Chirk looking so good. This year it has been especially difficult to keep up with all the warm weather. Everyone has been working so hard and Chirk is looking its best but this should make the job a little less time consuming."
Chirk Town Councillor Terry Evans said, "The Community Forum is very grateful to Kronospan for their generous gift which will make all the difference to the volunteers here in Chirk - just have to hope the judges can see the results!"
